Stills Restaurant & Bar

A long-running bar and gastropub on Yas Island

Stills Restaurant & Bar

Yas Island is a bustling spot with plenty of choices for those looking to bend an elbow. Yes, there are many new and shiny places to enjoy a tipple or two, and then there’s Stills. An oldie but an undisputed goodie that’s been a popular place for expats for years now.

With both indoor and outdoor seating, the space is massive and claims to be home to the longest bar in the capital (does anyone know if it’s actually been measured recently?).

It’s the weekend and we head down prepared to shove our way through the crowds for a space – but there are no crowds, which is unusual considering Stills is known for drawing in the masses.

There’s a daily happy hour between 4pm until 8pm with buy, one get one on selected house beverages including hops, grape and short measures, which we’re happy to take advantage.

And with the happy hour deal, drinks average out to be less than Dhs25 each, which makes for a bargainous evening.

There are also plenty of screens dotted about, making it a decent spot to catch all the latest sporting action with a discounted pint in hand, and if you get hungry, the menu features gastropub-style grub with the signature flatbread being a highlight.

The biggest downfall for us on this occasion is how quiet it is. It’s a Friday evening and the lack of ambiance is strange. It’s even more odd considering how buzzing the atmosphere used to be in this place not so long ago.

We love this little cluster of bars, but find Stills is, well, a bit still compared to the others nearby. We hope to see it pick up again soon.
