We’re having a great time sitting at the bar in The Championship Lounge, chatting with the barman about life, the future, and the Led Zeppelin song playing through the stereo when we’re rudely interrupted by more customers (joking, of course).
All of a sudden, our private chat is overwhelmed by a dozen or so golfers here to dissect their game and hand out prizes and titles to those taking part.
We’re totally in the dark when it comes to the rules and traditions of golf, but we’re fascinated by the conversations coming from the group. It’s certainly livened the place up, and despite it being very pleasant previously, the golfers have lifted the atmosphere in the cosy bar.
It’s not a place we’d taken much notice of before (we’ll hold our hands up) but a repositioning as a sports bar, along with the introduction of a Dhs21 happy hour from 4pm until 9pm and a bowl of free fries for everyone, was enough to tempt us to the Sas Al Nakhl venue.
We’re glad it did as we have a very enjoyable hour or so in the bar. The decor is a little bit mismatched (but in a charming way), with brown leather Chesterfield-style sofas nestling up with bright red chairs, and lots of paraphernalia on the walls. There are four big screens showing sports and a pool table, too.
The drinks are good value, with a couple of promotional bottles of hops (Dhs25) available in addition to the happy hour.
Staff are excellent, and are clearly more used to the rituals of the regular clientele than we are, engaging in what we believe is known as “banter” with them.
All in all, this is a great place for a post-round pint, but also if you’re a non-golfer in the area.
