UAE aims to vaccinate half the population by the end of March

Nation sets big targets for the free COVID-19 vaccine

Eight percentof the UAE population has already been vaccinated against COVID-19, and the Emirates want to increase that dramatically in the next few months.

The news comes from the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA).

More than 820,000 vaccinations have already been administered and ambitious targets have been set to safeguard the population.

NCEMA has announced that the UAE aims to vaccinate 50 percent of the population by the end of the first quarter of the year.

In the weekly media briefing it was announced that ‘vaccinating the largest possible percentage of society’ is the aim of the country in order to ‘access the acquired immunity resulting from vaccination, which will help reduce the number of cases and control the disease’.

Right now, the UAE is focusing on vaccinating under 18s and vulnerable people, including the elderly and those with chronic diseases.

Twenty-eight days after the second dose of vaccine people no longer have to quarantine, but they do have to continue to wear a mask and social distance.

The NCEMA reiterated that taking the vaccine is optional, however citizens are encouraged to get vaccinated to protect the population.

In Abu Dhabi the “Choose to Vaccinate” campaign has been launched to encourage residents to consider being vaccinated against COVID-19.
