Abu Dhabi ranked world’s safest city

The UAE capital tops the list for the fifth time

While we wouldn’t recommend leaving your brand-new iPhone laying around any old place, or leaving the keys to your brand shiny Lamborghini on the dashboard overnight, unaccompanied tech and flash cars are as safe in the capital as they could be anywhere in the world.

And that’s because Abu Dhabi has – for the fifth year running – topped a quality of life index ranking the globe’s safest cities.

Created by crowd-sourcing website Numbeo, the list comprises 431 cities from all corners of the globe – with the UAE capital coming out on top.

The website collates feedback from users – based on a series of questions about the cost of living, safety, pollution and so on – to create comprehensive lists of key determinable factors concerning urban life.

In a tweet published via the Abu Dhabi Police official handle, Major General Staff Pilot Faris Al Mazrouei, Commander-in-Chief of the force, said the ranking was “a testament to the security and stability Abu Dhabi enjoys”.

Abu Dhabi boasts a score of 88.46 percent for safety in the latest round of the annual rankings, ensuring an unprecedented fifth year with the crown of world’s safest city.

But the capital was not the only city in the region to be hailed by Numbeo and its visitors. Coming in at sixth in the 2021 list was Sharjah, with a score of 83.59 percent, swiftly followed by Dubai which posted a score of 83.44 percent.

The Omani capital of Muscat, meanwhile, is parked up in 20th for the 2021 standings, with a safety index rating of 78.93 percent.

At the other end of the conversation is Caracas in Venezuela (15.29 percent), Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (17.96 percent) and Pretoria, South Africa (18.01 percent).
