Everything to know about the Expo 2020 Dubai closing ceremony

The full details about Expo’s final day on Thursday March 31

What a fun six months its been.

As we come into the last three days of Expo 2020 Dubai, we reflect on the best moments we experienced at the world’s greatest show, but we also look at what is still to come.

According to Expo 2020 officials at a media closing ceremony update today, there are still some exciting things happening on the campus, particularly for the closing ceremony.

Here is everything we know about the Expo 2020 closing ceremony so far.

Where will the closing ceremony take place?

As with the opening ceremony, Al Wasl will host and narrate the final moments of Expo 2020 at the official closing ceremony. The Al Wasl dome has often been referred to as the heartbeat of Expo 2020, so this feels like a full circle moment.

When will the closing ceremony kick off?

With just a few days left, we are all coming to terms with the fact that Expo 2020 will finish on Thursday March 31. The hour long pre-show for the closing ceremony is planned to kick off at 6pm, with the main closing ceremony event taking place from 7pm.

What can we expect at the Expo 2020 closing ceremony?

During the hour long pre-show, Expo 2020 visitors can expect 36 minutes of harmonised orchestric music from the World String Ensemble will perform musical compositions from around the world, that often each pavilion would perform alone. This is set to show the harmony found across Expo 2020 through the language of music.

The closing ceremony will also showcase musicians who have taken to the multiple stages and courtyards across the Expo 2020 campus.

The most anticipated moments of the closing ceremony will begin from 7pm, where the Al Wasl dome will speak; narrating the experience of Expo 2020 including segments named Sea of Nations and Garden of Memories. Exact details as to what these sections will include are yet to be confirmed.

Will the closing ceremony be open to the public?

Although parts of the Al Wasl dome will be closed for VIP visitors, namely the Inner Gardens of Al Wasl, there will be sections open to the public. The outer rim of Al Wasl will be open to the public, entry will be on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Visitors will also be able to take up places at the Jubilee Stage and Dubai Millennium Amphitheatre (DMA). Again these places will only be available on a first-come-first-serve basis.

There has to be a firework display, what time will there be fireworks?

Visitors to Expo 2020 can expect to see not one but three incredible fireworks.

A four and a half minute firework display will take place at the end of the closing ceremony, set to begin at approximately 7.55pm.

Of course, one firework display is never enough. A second firework display will take place with five minute shows beginning at 11.55pm to signify the final day of Expo 2020 in Dubai.

And a final show will take place at 3am as the gates close for the final time at Expo 2020.

But where will be the best place to get good views of the fireworks?

Expo 2020 event organisers confirmed at today’s media briefing that visitors will be able to enjoy and observe the fireworks from anywhere on the Expo 2020 campus as the fireworks will launch from several different areas.

What time will Expo 2020 close at for the last time?

Although Expo 2020 will come to an end on Thursday March 31, the park will remain open until 3am on Friday April 1. At 3am on Friday April 1, the Expo 2020 campus will close it’s gates for a final time.
