Moon Resort in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi could be home to the biggest tourism destination in the Middle East

Moon Resort was initially proposed for Dubai, but Abu Dhabi is now being considered

Great news for the UAE capital. A huge Dhs18bn Moon Resort could soon be landing in Abu Dhabi.

Anyone who lives in Abu Dhabi knows that the UAE capital is one of the most exciting cities for new openings, launches and projects. And now, our brilliant city could be the next landing zone for one of the most spectacular tourist destinations in the world.

Canadian-based company Moon World Resorts Inc. first proposed the Dhs18billion Moon Resort plans last year and now the co-founders have revealed that they are working hard behind the scenes to turn it into reality.

“It’s gone crazy,” co-founder Michael R. Henderson told Hotelier Middle East. “MOON has been extremely well received by the global media and indeed by the Emirati people. We have been astounded by the number of UAE-based individuals who have reached out to share their kind words of encouragement.”

Moon Resort was initially proposed for Dubai, but now Abu Dhabi is currently being considered to house the mega project.

Moon Resort

If Moon Resort is to be built, it would take around 48 months to complete and it would become a 735-foot-tall mixed-use building in the shape of Earth’s only natural satellite.

There are huge plans to build a spa, nightclub, events centre, a shopping and retail space, as well as luxury residences, a “moon shuttle” and training services for space agencies and astronauts from all over the world.

Developers hope that the giant Moon Resort will attract more than 10 million visitors annually at its peak.

If Moon Resort does land in Abu Dhabi, it could put the UAE capital on the global stage as a hub for affordable space tourism.

Co-founders Henderson and Sandra G. Matthews plan to embark on a 2023 roadshow to present Moon to potential licensees across the Middle East, with Abu Dhabi as one of the target locations, along with cities in KSA, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait.

Abu Dhabi is fast becoming a hot spot for developers. Just recently, the city saw new development Al Qana open to the public, which is now home to the National Aquarium Abu Dhabi, the largest aquarium in the Middle East, as well as walking trails, new restaurants, and a huge virtual reality and esports hub, Pixoul Gaming.

While Moon Resort in Abu Dhabi has not yet been confirmed, it’s exciting to imagine what our city could look like in the next decade.
