Sharjah private schools to have three-day weekend

Students will get off Friday, Saturday and Sunday

Private school students in Sharjah will get a three-day weekend in the New Year.

The Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) made the announcement on Sunday December 12 that it would follow the new four-day working week system that was announced in Sharjah last week, meaning students will go to school for four days then get three days off.

The announcement read: “#SPEA announces the adoption of the new schedule for all #Sharjah private educational institutions starting January 1, 2022. Further details will be announced in the coming days.”

It continued, “In line with Sharjah’s Executive Council Decision, SPEA has approved the new weekend for all private educational institutions in Sharjah to be Friday, Saturday and Sunday effective January 1, 2022.”

It was revealed on Thursday December 9 that Sharjah was moving to a four-day work week with three-day weekend.

The Sharjah Executive Council said that weekends in Sharjah would be Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The decision was approved in line with His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

The new work week in Sharjah will be Monday to Thursday from 7.30am to 3.30pm. The changes are being made in line with the UAE-wide shift to the working week to further align with global markets.

On Tuesday December 7, it was revealed that United Arab Emirates public sector workers would adopt a four-and-a-half day working week commencing January 1, 2022. Government employees will work from Monday to Thursday with a half day on Friday, making Saturday and Sunday the new weekend.

The new schedule gives federal government employees an eight-hour workday, where they will work from 7.30am to 3.30pm. Additionally, they will work for four-and-a-half hours on Friday, from 7.30am to noon.

Similarly, it was announced that week that students from all public and private schools in the United Arab Emirates will adopt a new timetable to correspond to the governmental changes.

UAE pupils outside of Sharjah will attend lessons from Monday to Thursday, with a half day on Friday. Timings will be confirmed by authorities at a later time. UAE pupils will have Saturday and Sunday off as their new weekend.

There will also be flexible working hours and work-from-home options on Fridays for government workers.

Friday sermons and prayers in the United Arab Emirates will be held after 1.15pm all year long.
