Ciprani is a name known around the world, with many locations across the globe, into one on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island. The set-up is a little odd – decked out like a cruise ship / swanky yacht complete with a porthole, but with the setting next to Yas Marina it’s more in keeping with the theme. It’s smart and slick, and in winter there’s a fantastic terrace overlooking the actual yachts, Marina and W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island.
Inside it’s a little on the bright side, but at least you can see your dinner clearly. And it’s a lot to look at – dishes are presented elegantly and they’re generous in size. And meals come with zucchini fritters as a free appetiser.
It’s an ideal spot for a date or family occasion – and dishes are worth sharing. There’s a page of Japanese dishes and a list of Italian classics, and it’s the latter we’d suggest you go with, as that’s really what Ciprani is all about.
Staff are helpful and efficient – their pasta twirling skills are second to none, no messy spots on the tablecloth as there would be if we were left to our own amateur devices.
From a list of classics the mozzarella salad, with fragrant fresh basil and sweet, tangy tomatoes is a hit, while the lightly pan-seared scallops come in a zingy lemony butter sauce.
Stick with the pastas and you’ll be a happy diner as these are done simply – and extremely well. Gnocchi with gorgonzola is a cheese-lover’s dream, while a classic cacio e pepe, with perfectly al dente bucatini is rich and comforting.
If you’re after something meatier the grills are a hit, too.
It’s on the pricey end of the scale but for a special night out this is a solid choice and worth checking out the heritage.
