Afternoon tea at Observation Deck At 300

A soaring tea at the highest vantage point in the capital

You’re whizzing up a lift to the 74th floor, but you don’t know what you’re in for until you step out of the enclosed elevator. It’s not the latest ride at Warner Bros World, but afternoon tea at Observation Deck At 300.

You might wish the lift had windows, but the drama of emerging and seeing the unobstructed views is the ultimate welcome. (The soft iced welcome drink is pretty good, too.)

This striking spot in the Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers is the highest vantage point in Abu Dhabi at 300 metres above the capital (get the name now?) with sprawling views of the Arabian Gulf.

Endless views are what attract the crowds and their cameras so don’t be surprised to see people buzzing around your table, especially if you’ve got a really prime piece of skyline. Although, there really is no bad seat from up here.

The afternoon tea is part of the full experience – and should be reserved at least 24 hours ahead. You are paying for the high tea in the sky-high location. It’s the same afternoon tea menu as the Lobby Lounge, but Dhs30 more. But, seeing the Corniche and Emirates Palace from soaring, 360-degree views is definitely worth a few extra dirhams.

Afternoon tea isn’t an afterthought because the smart staff have the ceremony down pat. Traditional elements (scones with preserves, savouries and mini desserts) are combined with a few modern touches: expect everything from a foie gras cone to rainbow cake. Ingredients are as lush as the views, with truffles and matcha also featuring on the Instagrammable silver cake stand.

Beverages are unlimited and include signature teas and an optional bubbly upgrade.

The dress code is “elegant and casual” with some going more for the former and others the latter on our visit, but what is universal is the excitement.

If you have an Abu Dhabi bucket list (and you well should), the Observation Deck At 300 afternoon tea should be towards the top.

Dhs250, Dhs50 (bubbly upgrade)
