Mexican food is one of those cuisines that can either go very wrong, or turn out to be a total sensation. We’re obviously hoping for the latter as we arrive at Amerigos, and the fact that we have a bowl of nachos ready and waiting for us on the table is already a good sign. The menu is full of the usual classics, plus some authentic dishes you might not have heard of, as well as steaks, ceviches and sharing boards.
We kick off with some guacamole, because if a Mexican restaurant can’t master a creamy bowl of guac, then you know something is amiss. Fortunately, the colourful venue pulls it off masterfully.
We’re big fans of quesadillas, so we decide not to mess about and go straight in with the quesadilla sampler sharing plate.
Containing tortilla pieces filled with beef, chicken and vegetable, there’s far more than just a small sample of each variety.
The plate could easily feed three people, and the spicy triangles are served oozing with cheese and alongside plenty of sour cream and salsa. Each filling is absolutely brilliant, but the chicken just edges it as our favourite. We’re still dreaming about it now.
The Mexican mixed drinks are refreshing and the jaunty tunes from the live band make the whole experience even better still.
