Berri’s Cafe

People-pleasing casual plates at Al Muneera

Berri’s Cafe
Berri’s Cafe

With two tiers of eateries looking over the private beach and clear waters of the Gulf, it’s hard to beat a lunchtime at Al Muneera.

Located just metres from the white sands, the outdoor area of Berri’s is in perhaps the best spot of all. The structure is partly made out of wooden pallets (just to be extra hipster friendly) and the soft cushions are perfect for lounging about on.

The menu is full of casual plates such as pizzas, pastas, salads and sandwiches. Surrounded by tough competition such as Tawa Bakery and Switch, we sense that it’s trying to provide something to suit all tastes.

We kick off with some buffalo-style shrimps, even though one of us isn’t a fan of buffalo sauce. But we both find the dressing pleasantly spicy without being too overpowering, and the ranch dressing is a genius touch that makes it even better.

For mains we go for the Cajun cheesesteak wrap, and in an attempt to get some greens into our diet, the kale quinoa Caesar salad.

While it’s definitely not strictly healthy, the latter is an attractive bowl of creamy dressing, loads of fresh kale, a scattering of quinoa and a bit of added chicken. It’s very tasty and not too heavy, and while the dressing might be a bit rich for some, it’s perfect for sharing.

Meanwhile, the wrap is a bit on the small side, but the lightly spiced beef and mixed peppers are very tasty, and it’s all finished off with a generous portion of skinny fries.

We leave feeling full and very relaxed.
