You might not be hankering for one prior to your pals booking a table at Blue Grill but once served any of its fine cuts, it will be hard to have any beef with their choice of venue.
Nestled on Yas Plaza, Blue Grill at Yas Island Rotana has built a reputation for quality steaks from around the globe.
We arrive on a weekday evening and notwithstanding it’s a school night, there is a good crowd and a thoroughly welcoming buzz about the place.
In the main part of the restaurant you could easily find a nook on one of its sofas or stand-alone tables but with the availability of outdoor dining on the terrace, we know where we’re heading (particularly at this time of year).
A portion of free garlic bread kicks off proceedings before we jump right into crab cakes and charcoal-grilled king prawns.
Perfectly cooked, we could eat this for the whole meal but we are here to take on steak and what is brought to the table more than lives up to expectations.
Two chunks of beef – New Zealand tenderloin and South African rib-eye – are cooked to absolute perfection, meaning our knives slice through the tender meat with consummate ease.
The solitary onion ring and two chunky chips has us thinking we will need to order more but by the conclusion, bellies are at bursting point.
Not that we needed it but there is also a self-service salad bar, just in case you wanted a little vegetation to counter-balance the meat feast.
It’s a laid-back venue, thanks to the lighting and chilled music, while the roar from the intermittently passing planes weirdly adds to the experience.
The service is all what you want from a restaurant. Attentive but not over-bearing. Friendly but not overly familiar.
If you haven’t checked in here in a while, make sure you do. We certainly won’t be leaving it too long until our the next visit.
