Breakfast is not only the most important meal of the day but one of the best, too.
We’re talking huge stacks of pancakes dripping in syrup, eggs with oozing yolks, thick slabs of brioche French toast with fresh berries and a few avocados mashed for good measure.
Don’t forget the coffee, either. Seriously, we need it.
Eating breakfast out and about in Abu Dhabi is one of our favourite things to do, so give us a free morning and we’re all in, seeking out the best breakfasts in town.
Plus, when a new café opens we’re all ears, so when we heard there is a great new place inside the recently opened Abu Dhabi Youth Hub, we had to visit.
Climb the stairs at the entrance of the building and you’ll find Fa’e Café, a laidback venue doused in natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows, serving a range of freshly-made sweet treats and freshly-brewed coffee.
It’s lunch time but we’re in breakfast mode, although we do get a little bit jealous when we see a few flatbreads making their way past our table. We make a mental note to come back and try these soon.
We decide to enjoy some eggs on toast, a breakfast staple, with some coffee.
The scrambled eggs arrive topped with fresh avocado and chopped tomatoes. It’s basic, but brilliant, with each of the component parts absolutely perfect. Sometimes the simple things really are best.
For something a little different, try the scrambled eggs with coriander and feta, which are bright green, like something from a Dr Seuss Book. The hue may be different but the taste is on point with the seasoning not overpowering the scramble. Plus, on the side, there’s a huge stack of crushed baby potatoes, coated in garlic, that go perfectly with the mint chutney.
The coffee is pretty good, too, with the beans provided by Abu Dhabi’s Blacksmith Coffee Company, but the lack of lactose-free milks leave us a little disappointed in these days of diary alternatives.
The venue is cool, the quality is great and the prices are reasonable. There’s lots to like about Fa’e Café.
