Martabaan by Hemant Oberoi

An elegant Indian restaurant in the glamorous Emirates Palace

It’s hard not to get swept away by the magnificence of a meal at Emirates Palace. This place has a way of making you feel like royalty just stepping through the giant front doors.
After a quick photoshoot featuring the gorgeous tiled ceiling in the foyer, head straight to Martabaan to continue the glam evening vibes.

While Martabaan might be more understated than the rest of the palace (it’s hard to compete with all that white marble and gold) there is still the feeling that you’re somewhere special when you sit down at this spot.

With a pretty sea view and white light streaming through the windows, it’s easy to get comfortable here.

Seafood fan? Opt for the varqui crab to start, aboard a delicate tower of tellicherry pepper crab stacked on filo sheets. The softness of the crab works perfectly with the thin crunch of the filo, and each bite leaves you eager for more.

Continue with the under-the-sea vibe and plump for the Allepy prawns, traditional prawn curry in raw mango infused with coconut milk. The gravy reminds us of an upscale tikka masala with a sweet twist, and tender, juicy prawns are perfectly cooked.

If you still have room (congrats), don’t miss the masala chai crème bûlée, presented with fancy-looking golden caramel net on top. Navigate the delicate basket and you’ll be rewarded with a delighful crack from the blistered caramel atop the silky, sweet custard.

It’s a swish spot, but if you’re looking for a fancy night out and love Indian food then this could well be your next date night / birthday or anniversary dinner sorted.
