There’s a fine line between being hipster cool and being a restaurant that just looks good on Instagram. Luckily, this café-restaurant hits home on both fronts.
Is it hip, cool and on trend? Absolutely, but there’s far more to the Al Bateen venue than photo opportunities.
The dining room could feature in an interior design magazine, with its open kitchen, giant mirrors, succulents and small outdoor garden seating area.
We take our seat outside to enjoy the cooler weather and enjoy a lazy weekend breakfast.
It’s busy on a Friday morning but where there are crowds there’s usually good food, too.
We haven’t got got a massive sweet tooth but the French toast is a thing of beauty. The thick slabs of brioche bread are crisp on the outside and perfectly fluffy in the middle.
We soak the toast in syrup and willingly slip into a food coma while sipping coffee.
There’s lots to love about the hash brown Benedict. The homemade hash browns are exceptional and the eggs are perfect (with runny yolks). However, the Hollandaise is a little too acidic for us. We still finish it all, though.
We enjoy soaking up the sun and don’t really want to leave, but there are people eyeing up our seats. We can always come back.
