We’re well aware that lots of people love this friendly Italian restaurant, but still we’re suprised to find that it’s so busy on a Sunday evening. In fact, we feel lucky that we manage to bag one of the few remaining tables.
It’s great to see a place so full of life, and the servers are certainly kept busy trying to keep up with the constant flow of orders.
We’re in the mood for a full-on carb fest, and the soft, freshly baked loaf of Italian bread with olive and sun-dried tomato tapenades doesn’t take us long to demolish. It’s a delicious way to start and it gets us warmed up perfectly for what’s to come.
We start with the conchiglioni alla norma, a relatively simple dish of large pasta tubes, fried aubergine, tomato and baked ricotta. On paper it sounds fine, but perhaps a bit unexciting. In reality it is tremendous.
Normally we don’t order pasta as it is ‘the kind of thing that even we could make at home’, but we definitely couldn’t whip this up. The flavours are vibrant, the pasta cooked perfectly al dente and the ingredients are of the highest quality.
The pollo e fungi pizza is also delicious, and we can’t help finishing every slice of the thin dough topped with tomatoes, mozzarella, mushrooms, red onion and chicken.
Service is efficient and without unnecessary airs and graces. We leave feeling full and content.
When all you want is comfort food in a casual setting, we highly recommend Prego’s.
