Living in Abu Dhabi can feel like one big holiday at times, though not when we are at work, of course, Time Out bosses.
However, we really feel those vacation vibes more than usual when we swing on by to Sacci, the warm and welcoming Italian eatery at the Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort and Spa.
Not only is the sprawling complex hidden away from the hustle and bustle of big city life, but the pretty outdoor terrace of Sacci, where we take our seats, really does put you at ease.
Surrounded by trees, which are bathed in twilight as afternoon gives way to evening and the cheerful chirping of birds, any stresses and strains from the working day soon wash away.
Sacci aims to bring a rich tasty of Italy to Abu Dhabi and has just introduced a new menu crafted by a new chef.
Feeling relaxed and ready to explore the cuisine, we kick off with gratinated scallops and grilled octopus.
While the octopus is tough and not crispy enough for our liking, and comes with vegetables surpisingly served cold, the scallops are a massive hit. They are soft and succulent, with the flavours lifted by the addition of a subtle cauliflower purée and garlic parsley.
There are no mixed feelings about the main courses, however.
The spinach and ricotta ravioli with wild mixed mushroom and black truffle are full of fresh flavours and go down an absolute treat.
Meanwhile, the traditional Italian beef lasagna is a simple dish that is done really well.
The huge portion takes some finishing, but we enjoy every last bite.It is a rich and creamy dish and packed to the brim with fantastic flavours.
For an authentic and homely Italian experience, in a reasonable price bracket, Sacci hits the mark.
