Sayad

The exceptionally fancy seafood restaurant at Emirates Palace

Sayad
Sayad

Perhaps it’s just in contrast to the shining gold that covers every other surface in Emirates Palace, but we find the vibrant green glow of Sayad quitestartling. It hardly matters though, as the outdoor terrace is gorgeous, with a fabulous view of the grounds of this lavish hotel.

It feels very romantic, and the staff are all keen and eager to make a fuss of us. The menu contains lots of fancy seafood dishes, and there’s even a pasta and chicken option if you prefer your meal to be land-based.

The amuse-bouche of salmon with avocado is light and fresh, and we can’t help but chuckle at the gold butter (yes, really).

It’s all quite pricey, and so we go straight in with the mains. The blackened cod is a lovely piece of fish but we find the herb crust far too salty and it overpowers the natural flavour of the seafood. It’s served with some elaborate foam decorations, smooth creamed spinach and a few bits of shellfish. It looks spectacular but there are too many contrasting flavours.

The sea bass, however, is far more simple (except for the obligatory piles of foam), plus with tasty sides of mashed potato and squid, we enjoy it a lot more.

Some aspects might seem a bit dated, but this venue still delivers beautiful dishes made with super, high-quality ingredients.
