Silk & Spice

A Thai spot serving up big flavours and Corniche views

Silk & Spice had been closed for nearly five years. Five long years. But the Thai spot is open again following a revamp, and it has already highlighted that good things come to those who wait. If you’ve been dreaming wistfully about the pad Thai, there’s no need to reminisce any longer. Pull up a chair (or plunk yourself into a booth) and get ready to eat the real deal.

Situated high up in the Sofitel, there is a tranquil spot for everyone whether you want to crawl into one of the low, large, round tables, or get cosy on the plush sofas while admiring the Corniche views.

Set menus offer the most money and flavour mileage and can be shared for the table. And they are a solution for those who can’t decide or simply don’t have a clue where to begin from the extensive variety of dishes.

Staff can help you narrow things down if you want to go the à la carte route.

Whether you go for a set menu or à la carte, no order is really complete without the papaya salad and the moreish pad Thai. And definitely try to squeeze in room for the khao niew ma muang (mango sticky rice with ice cream).

Forget variety, it’s chilli that’s the spice of life here. But those who get upper lip sweat just looking at a bird’s eye can take comfort in the balanced menu. And one of the refreshing drinks can always cool you down.

Service is polite but staff allow dinners plenty of room to settle in so if you want something, you might need to go after it. This isn’t a place where they’re asking how your food is before you’ve swallowed the first mouthful.

It has been a long time coming, but Silk & Spice has proven worth the wait. However, we don’t suggest you wait too long to hit up the reopened spot. There’s pad Thai to try.
