The Third Place Cafe

A homely café that’s perfect for working, reading and eating

Sometimes you just work better when you get out of the house and don’t have temptations like Netflix to distract you.

Sitting in a coffee shop with your laptop and a skinny latté might feel a bit like you are trying too hard to be a Carrie Bradshaw-type character, but it does actually help you focus.

Most of the other customers in The Third Place are typing away furiously on laptops, but with comfy sofas and armchairs, plus bookshelves stacked with interesting novels, it’s also a cosy setting for catching up with friends or just curling up with a good book for a few hours. It feels more like someone’s living room than a typically stylish Abu Dhabi eatery.

Handwritten on chalkboards that cover one wall, the menu includes loads of delicious-sounding salads, sandwiches, curries and other mains.

Trying to ignore cakes and homemade granola, we eventually settle on the prawn fajita wrap. It’s too messy to eat with our hands and it’s packed with huge prawns, avocado, onions and peppers. While we love the wrap, the fries are a bit flavourless and the salad is just a small pile of leaves.

However, the artichoke and feta salad is more impressive. It takes us ages to munch through the huge bowl of lettuce, tomatoes, olives and peppers. There’s loads of feta and it’s finished off with a light and tangy lemon dressing.

The coffee is strong and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. We plan on returning with our favourite book next time.
