It’s time to start training. The Spartan World Championship is returning to Abu Dhabi with a new location and a new course for 2022. Are you up for the challenge?
Last year was the first time the championship had travelled outside of the US, and it’s back in the capital again. The Spartan World Championship 2022 is returning to Abu Dhabi with a bang. If you want to compete you’d better start getting your training programme together because the event goes from Saturday December 3 to Sunday December 4.

Hosted by Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the event will take place at a new site: Al Wathba Abu Dhabi resort. Athletes will race through the desert to claim the title of champion. Spartan athletes compete to qualify throughout the racing season. They’ll go head to head in World Championship Super on Saturday December 3. The team race will take place on the following day.
But if you’re not a professional, the Spartan World Championship still has a lot of sporting fun to try. There will be open races for kids and adults, plus festivities to take part in. If the event is anything like last year, we can expect local cuisine, dune buggy rides, cultural demonstrations, yoga classes, a parade and more.
If you have sports on your brain, the F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is also returning in 2022. Yas Marina Circuit recently announced that the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2022 is officially a go. Tickets are available now and we’ve got all the details you need to know.
