Only UAE residents can fly to Abu Dhabi unless in transit

Tourists are not to book travel to Abu Dhabi at this time

Abu Dhabi residents who are outside of the country are able to return to the UAE.

UAE residents no longer need to apply for government approval before flying back into the country, the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) announced last month.

Previously all returning residents were required to register for approval through The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA).

Now, residents in Abu Dhabi and the Northern Emirates (Excluding Dubai) need to register with the ICA and have a negative COVID-19 test result within 96 hours of arriving in the city.

Residents will undergo another COVID-19 test upon arrival in Abu Dhabi and will be expected to quarantine for two weeks.

Dubai residents, at this time, still need to apply to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA) for approval to return to any airport in the UAE.

Tourists are currently not able to fly to Abu Dhabi, arrivals at Abu Dhabi International Airport should be residents or those coming for work with visa applications in progress.

Arrivals in Abu Dhabi should be residents or those who are in transit to other locations across the world.

Those wishing to travel to Abu Dhabi for tourism will have to wait until official announcement is made welcoming back visitors to the UAE capital.

Resident returning to Abu Dhabi?

If you are a UAE resident with an Abu Dhabi visa you can register on the ICA website here and book a flight back to the capital.

You no longer need approval before returning to Abu Dhabi.

UAE residents with visas in Dubai still need to apply to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA) for approval before departing to either Abu Dhabi or Dubai.

A negative COVID-19 test result is required, from a government recognized facility, 96 hours before departing for the UAE.

Once arriving in the UAE, all passengers will have to undergo another COVID-19 test and quarantine for 14 days.

Abu Dhabi resident flying into Dubai?

Abu Dhabi residents will have to follow the procedures outlined above, registering with the ICA and testing before the fight and on arrival.

In addition, a negative COVID-9 test result from the past 48 hours will be required to be shown at the Abu Dhabi border to gain entry to the capital.

Once arriving in Abu Dhabi you are required to quarantine for 14 days.
