UNESCO names Abu Dhabi as City of Music

The UAE capital joins nearly 250 cities in the UNESCO Creative City Network

Abu Dhabi has officially been designated as a City of Music by the UNESCO Creative City Network.

As proud Abu Dhabi residents, we’re not surprised that the capital’s rich arts and culture scene is being recognised. From stunning global museums to brilliant theatre to the wide-ranging music scene Abu Dhabi is a vibrant hub for all things arts and culture.

The designation was announced by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s Creative City Network: an initiative launched in 2004 to promote cooperation between cities that factor creativity into their development plans.

The City of Music designation reinforces the capital’s dedication to music; Abu Dhabi now sits alongside musical cities such as Liverpool, Auckland, Seville and Chennai. It joins nearly 250 cities around the globe that are working together to place creativity and culture at the heart of their development plans and cooperate with key players from the music industry across the world.

The designation as a UNESCO City of Music will allow Abu Dhabi to continue to grow its music sector, which is already mega.

We have three major stars headlining this year’s F1 after race concerts. Khalid and Lewis Capaldi were announced in late September, and we’ve just learned that Stormzy will be headlining, too.
