There is something bright on the horizon for the UAE; Etihad Rail will be transporting passengers across the UAE by 2030 in record time, and we’re ready to hop aboard.
Dreaming of exploring the emirates by train? That dream is chugging around the corner sooner than you think. Goodbye morning drive, hello eco-friendly and stress-free train ride. By 2030, passengers will be able to travel from Abu Dhabi to Dubai in just 50 minutes.
The UAE Railways Programme falls under the “Projects of the 50” which is a series of developmental and economic projects that accelerate the UAE’s development.
We’ve had our eyes on Etihad Rail since the first phase of the development, Freight Rail, opened in 2016. Freight Rail is fully operational and is used to transport goods and materials across the emirates, keeping heavy trucks off UAE roads.

The future railway will run from Ghuwaifat on the border with Saudi Arabia to the port of Fujairah on the Eastern coast. It will connect 11 key cities and regions across the UAE. The railway will reduce carbon emissions by 70 to 80 percent and will also provide more than 9,000 jobs by 2030.
Passengers will be able to travel from Abu Dhabi to Dubai in 50 minutes and from Abu Dhabi to Fujairah in 100 minutes. By 2030, the number of passengers is expected to reach 36.5 million annually.
The third project in the UAE Railways Programme is the Integrated Transportation Service project, where an innovation centre will ensure the integration of smart transportation solutions across the UAE. A network of light rail will be connected to the Rail Passenger System to facilitate transportation inside UAE cities as well as between them. Smart apps will allow planning and booking trips, integrating logistics, port and customs services and logistics solutions.
Staycations and going to another city for a concert or big event will be even easier. We’re already dreaming about the stress-free travel possibilities.
