COVID-19 update: Abu Dhabi government employees to have mandatory PCR tests every 7 days

The coronavirus protocol change takes effect on Sunday

For the latest UAE COVID-19 update, all Abu Dhabi government employees and companies will now need mandatory PCR tests every seven days.

The Abu Dhabi coronavirus protocol change comes into effect on Sunday December 26, and it was implemented by the Department of Government Support (DGS) in coordination with the Abu Dhabi Emergency Crisis and Disasters Committee (NCEMA). The regular PCR test update will apply to “all employees of government entities and companies in the emirate”.

The Abu Dhabi COVID protocol update did not address those working in the private sector.

It was announced earlier that people entering government offices will need green status on the Al Hosn app from Monday January 3, 2022. It will apply to all visitors and employees visiting UAE federal government offices.

To have a green pass on the Al Hosn app in Abu Dhabi, the user must be fully vaccinated and will need a negative COVID-19 PCR test that is not over 14 days old.

Earlier in December, Abu Dhabi announced a massive border change for those travelling from within the UAE. From Sunday December 19, people entering Abu Dhabi from within the United Arab Emirates are scanned with EDE scanners at entry points. The EDE scanners will be used to detect potential COVID-19 cases.

In such potentially positive, COVID-19 cases, individuals will be referred to an on-site testing centre and given a free antigen test. The COVID-19 tests results will be available within 20 minutes.

The UAE’s updated COVID-19 protocols are part of the country’s proactive response to coronavirus pandemic, and include achieving high vaccination rates, boosting testing and putting travel restrictions in place. The updated measures come into effect in light of concerns with the Omicron variant around the world.
