Looking to attend an exciting event in Abu Dhabi or new museum exhibition? Listen up, because there has been an update to green pass protocols.
The Department of Culture and Tourism revealed updated preventative measures for attending events and exhibitions to keep participants safe from COVID-19. Effective October 29, the new protocols include providing a negative PCR test that is not more than 96 hours old, mandatory wearing of face masks and thermal screenings at all entry points.

There must also be EDE tests at all entrances at facilities that had the technology when the update came into effect. Establishments that do not have the EDE tests are “obliged to adopt the tests as soon as devices are available.”
Earlier this month, the Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT) approved the use of EDE scanners for detecting COVID-19 infections.
Previously, a circular sent to tourism, event, hotel, museum and entertainment venue managers stipulated that attendees must provide proof of a negative PCR that was not more than 48 hours old.
In September 2021, an update revealed that a green pass would be required for those aged 16 and above to access Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) in the capital.
The rule did not apply for visits to emergency departments or drive-through testing facilities, so Abu Dhabians were still able to get a PCR test or vaccine from SEHA drive-through centres without green pass status.
In June 2021, six categories were added on the UAE’s Alhosn app. Green status, or a green pass, became mandatory for those wishing to attend venues such as shopping malls, large supermarkets, gyms, restaurants, museums, public parks and beaches and more in Abu Dhabi. The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) announced the changes at the time.
The most recent update to Abu Dhabi’s green status comes as the UAE ranked third for its response to the coronavirus pandemic, and it continues to climb up the resilience rankings.
