Abu Dhabi updates green list for travel to the UAE capital

Abu Dhabi ends mandatory on-arrival PCR tests for travellers

The capital has also removed its green list system so no quarantining is necessary

Abu Dhabi has removed its green list system and has stopped quarantine for all international travellers coming to the UAE capital. Additionally, PCR testing rules are ending for vaccinated travellers coming to the United Arab Emirates. There will be no mandatory on-arrival PCR tests for travellers flying with Etihad to Abu Dhabi.

The National Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) announced that fully vaccinated travellers will now only need to show a vaccine certificate along with a readable QR code.

If you are not vaccinated and travelling to the UAE, you must present a negative PCR test conducted within 48 hours of departure or proof of a COVID recovery complete with a QR code highlighting you’ve recovered from COVID-19 within a month of the date of travel.

On Monday March 7, Etihad confirmed that travellers will no longer need a PCR test to fly to Abu Dhabi if they’re vaccinated or under 16. The rule also applies to those who hold a COVID-19 recovery certificate. Similarly, passengers will no longer need to take a PCR test on arrival. You can take an optional PCR test for the new set COVID PCR test price of Dhs40.

Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee previously approved the reduced precautionary measures for international travellers. The removal of the green list system was shared on Friday February 25, just hours before it came into effect.

The last Abu Dhabi green list update came into effect on Tuesday February 15. It had 72 countries that were able to travel to the UAE capital without having to quarantine.

The removal of Abu Dhabi’s green list and quarantine procedures for travellers came as sweeping COVID-19 changes were made including UAE restaurants returning to 100 percent capacity, mandatory face mask changes and protocol updates for close contact cases.

Wondering about the Al Hosn green pass? The Abu Dhabi green list and Al Hosn green pass are different things, and the latter remains in effect. In Abu Dhabi, the green pass (and EDE scanners) will still be used to enter public places. The current green status validity is two weeks. See Time Out’s guide for everything to know about the latest Al Hosn green pass protocols in Abu Dhabi.

Curious about the easiest countries to travel to from the UAE? These are the countries that are also easing COVID-19 restrictions and do not require quarantining and PCR testing.
