The World’s Coolest Winter Photography Competition has been announced and there is Dhs250,000 in prize money available.
Love taking photos? Whether you’re a professional photographer or snap-happy amateur, the competition by the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Awards (Hipa) is open to everyone over the age of 18. Submissions should highlight the UAE’s attractions across entertainment, cultural and natural attractions.
The competition runs until Thursday January 20, 2022 and has two categories. One Photo is open to the public and covers five subcategories: desert, sea, mountains, valleys and the Emirates from above. The second category, Portfolio, is open to professionals and includes four subcategories: Emirates in your eyes, Emirates wilderness, faces from the Emirates, and street life in the Emirates.
The winter photography competition is linked with thee second season of the World’s Coolest Winter campaign, which aims to highlight all of the fun things to do in the United Arab Emirates during the winter months – which there are many.

Once you have snapped the perfect pic, submit your photo through the online registration page on the Hipa website. Then share your photo on Instagram with the campaign hashtag, #WorldsCoolestWinter.
Winners of each of the five subcategories under One Photo will receive Dhs7,000. Winners under the Portfolio category will win Dhs50,000. Submissions will be judged by an expert panel of judges, including John Stanmeyer, who has received the World Press Photo of the Year award, and Barbara Davidson, a three-time Pulitzer-prize-winning photographer.
