Expo 2020 Dubai to host Terry Fox Run this weekend

The cancer research event is open to all ages and abilities

The Terry Fox Run is coming to Expo 2020 Dubai. The event, which raises funds and awareness for cancer research, is returning to Dubai on Saturday February 5 to mark World Cancer Day.

The Terry Fox Run has promoted cancer research for more than four decades. It continues the legacy of Terry Fox, a Canadian university student who had lost his leg to cancer and had the goal to run across Canada in 1980 to raise awareness and cancer research funds, and to give others with cancer hope. When his cancer returned and he was unable to finish his journey across Canada, people ran in his honour. Since then, the Terry Fox Run has become an annual fundraising sporting event with more than 33 countries across five continents participating to support cancer research. The very first Terry Fox Run in Dubai took place in 1994.

Besides marking World Cancer Day at Expo, the Expo 2020 Dubai Terry Fox run will be the final event of Expo 2020 Dubai’s Health and Wellness Week. The run will take place through the country pavilions at Expo.

The Terry Fox Run in Dubai is open to all ages and abilities, and is a family-friendly, noncompetitive event.

As per tradition, it will be a 3 or 5km distance, where participants can choose to walk or run. Strollers are welcomed.

In tribute to Fox’s Canadian heritage, the Terry Fox Run will start and end at Jubilee Park, next to the Canada Pavilion.
