It’s the Year of the Tiger and there are many Lunar New Year celebrations in Abu Dhabi to mark the occasion. Whether you’re after a special dinner, a Chinese New Year event or a combination, there are Lunar New Year happenings in the capital to mark the New Year in roaring style. Lunar New Year 2022 might be happening on Tuesday February 1, but Abu Dhabi is celebrating in the coming weeks. Get ready.

Lunch and dinners

Shang Palace

Head to Shang Palace for a special weekday lunch. There are three Lunar New Year menus to pick from including the Yum Cha menu for Dhs138 per person. It’s focused on the Chinese tradition of sharing and includes seabass and the signature Macao-style baked egg tart. Tuck into the dragon menu for Dhs228 or ring in the Year of the Tiger with that menu for Dhs338. Where to begin?

Hakkasan

It’s the Year of the Tiger and Hakkasan in celebrating in high style. Head to the elegant Cantonese restaurant in Emirates Palace from Monday January 31 to Sunday February 13 from 6pm to 11.30pm to sample the 2022 Lunar New Year menu. The menu costs Dhs488 per person with a minimum of two guests to share. Dishes include fresh yu sheng salad, wok-fried sea bass and a gold tiger-striped orange dark chocolate firecracker for dessert.

Shang Palace

The Shangri-La’s signature Cantonese restaurant has two Chinese New Year set menus. Diners can enjoy them between Monday January 31 and Monday February 14 from 6pm to 11pm with prices for Dhs228 or Dhs338 per person. Prefer to go à la carte? Shang Palace has a daily dinner menu that celebrates the bold flavours of the Orient.

Lion Dance Ceremony

Traditional Lunar New Year celebrations start with a lion dance ceremony. The Shangri-La Hotel is hosting a free version in its lobby, beginning precisely on Tuesday February 1 at 11.08am.
