Yas Mall Abu Dhabi introduces roaming security robots

Tech on patrol to ensure public safety

Yas Mall in Abu Dhabi has introduced roaming robots to help improve safety.

Fitted with 360-degree cameras, the mobile robots are in place to assist security with spotting infringements.

Security at Yas Mall have confirmed with Time Out the robots are now in use at the mall.

The cameras can see if shoppers are not wearing masks correctly and are following social distancing rules.

Controlled by the security team, the closest security staff to any potential rule breakers can be alerted and can ask visitors to abide by the regulations.

Yas Mall reopened to the public on May 2 this year after a short closure due to the spread of COVID-19.

All malls in Abu Dhabi were permitted to reopen if following a strict set of guidelines.

Among the requirements are capacity limits to reduce crowding, providing separate entrances and exits, ensuring all staff wear masks and gloves, testing all staff for COVID-19 and installing thermal scanners.

Malls will also be required to carry out daily disinfection programmes.
