Malls in Abu Dhabi prepare to reopen with new government guidelines

Shopping centres can reopen once safety protocols are completed

As we announced last week, shopping malls in Abu Dhabi are set to reopen across the UAE capital.

Most of us in Abu Dhabi are self-isolating and staying at home to help stop the spread of COVID-19, but gradually restrictions are being lifted, with guidelines to ensure public safety.

Malls has been closed to the public in March alongside many public attractions, beaches and parks.

The Department of Economic Development previously announced it was speaking to malls about the possibility of reopening.

Now, a series of guidelines have been issued to malls and shopping destinations in the city to prepare for reopening to the public.

Malls in Abu Dhabi can reopen once they meet some stringent health and safety guidelines. Once open they will be inspected regularly.

Among the requirements are capacity limits to reduce crowding, providing separate entrances and exits, ensuring all staff wear masks and gloves, testing all staff for COVID-19 and installing thermal scanners.

Malls will also be required to carry out daily disinfection programmes.

All shopping centres and malls will be allowed to choose their own opening hours, and shoppers are advised to check with each shopping centre directly for the hours of operation once reopened.
