Uber and Hala offer discounts to people taking COVID-19 vaccine

Ride-hailing firms support inoculation campaign

Two major ride-hailing companies have moved to help drive the inoculation campaign here in the UAE.

Both Uber and Hala have introduced discount fares for passengers who have had – or are on their way to have – the COVID-19 vaccination.

Last week the Ministry of Health and Prevention confirmed that more than 20 percent of the population are now inoculated as work to contain the spread of the virus continues.

Uber has sought to facilitate easier access to public vaccination centres in three emirates by offering riders 25 percent off two rides (up to Dhs20) to and from medical facilities.

People across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah will be able to book trips to and from 43 centres using promo code SI2021UAE on the Uber app.

This includes a number of DHA centres in Dubai, the SEHA Vaccination Centre and other select centres in Abu Dhabi, and MOHAP-authorised centres in Sharjah.

Discounts are now in effect and will run until Monday February 8.

Meanwhile, in Dubai, Hala riders will be able to hitch a ‘credit back’ ride home (up to Dhs30 for two rides) from ten vaccination centres when using the promo code ‘HALAVAC’ on the Careem app.

The offer is valid on Hala (Dubai Taxis) and Hala Van and runs until February 18. Credit back is only valid for amount paid through cash or card, and is not applicable on amount paid through the Careem app wallet.
