Probably the best thing about the dining scene in Abu Dhabi is the huge variation in cuisines, styles and price points.
In one day you can have breakfast for under Dhs10, eat lunch from a food truck and splash out on a lavish spread for dinner that breaks the bank.
All the geographical bases are covered, too, from traditional Ethiopian to contemporary Indian, and everything inbetween.
Life would be a bit boring without variation wouldn’t it? We love trying new things and we don’t mind if it’s tucking into chicken wings in a smoky bar or sampling the finest cuts in a high-end steakhouse, we love food and we don’t care where we are when they’re serving it.
We do, however, have a soft spot for a good bar.
White tablecloths and steak knives are all well and good, but where there’s a bar there’s usually affordable food, good music, a chilled atmosphere, reasonably priced drinks and, if you’re lucky, a pool table or a karaoke machine.
We head along to Easy Tiger after a busy day at the office looking for some comfort food, a happy hour deal and a chilled vibe, and from the outset it looks like we’ll get all three.
It’s everything you would expect from a modern bar – live sport on the projector screen, a pool table and low-lit, casual ambiance.
The venue only opened at the end of 2019, but it seems there are already a few regulars who have taken their place at the bar.
We take our seats and order the tempura crabstick Jenga, because why wouldn’t you?, They’re not the tastiest snacks, but they are fun.
The Burning Bro wings on the other hand are, well, very spicy. We get stuck in but we definitely feel the heat from chilli long after the last bite. Long after…
We also order the Hipster Burger so we can say we tried it before it was cool. It hits the spot, topped with guacamole and crispy potato straws, and we clear the lot.
We can’t resist ordering the knickerbocker glory and it arrives like a chocolate volcano. There’s a lot going on, but it’s a big mess of chocolate deliciousness.
First impressions of this place are very good. We’ll be back.
