Harvester’s

An underground pub that’s been around for years

Harvester’s
Harvester’s

This well-worn pub is absolutely fine if you’re a regular or just want to sit with a pint in a smoky underground space and while away some time. If you’re after the finer things in life, or service with a smile, it’s probably not for you.

Harvester’s, is pretty similar to it’s neighbour Heroes in look, but not feel. The Crowne Plaza stalwart has some excellent staff who will let you know what the deals are and genuinely seem happy to help, Harvester’s, alas, does not. Not on our last few visits, anyway.

The pub is pretty busy, so it doesn’t seem to put everyone off. Maybe we should have pulled up a stool at the bar and tried to join in the banter with the expat blokes instead of sitting down and ordering food.

After a bit of a struggle to order, when the food arrives, it’s actually pretty good. It’s standard fare for this kind of place – fish and chips, burgers, pies and British-style curries – and is done with no frills but plenty of flavour. Chips are good, fish is crispy, the steak sandwich is tasty. There’s nothing special going on, but if you find yourself here and in need of food, you should hold no fear.

Getting the bill verges on the painful, and when it comes there is some back and forth about the prices. We definitely won’t be hurrying here again, but if there is call to pay Harvester’s another visit, we will stand at the bar and have a bowl of chips.
