The city is packed with backstreet restaurants. For those willing to venture off the beaten track, or duck behind a mall, there is much to discover; Ruchi is such a restaurant. It’s cheap, it’s decent and a wide selection of Indian dishes (primarily Kashmiri influenced) makes it one of the better budget Indian restaurants in the city. The dining area is spacious and friendly and the service is matched by the cooking. Dishes like the butter chicken are creamy, flavoursome and faultless. The dahl tadka is a little overpowering, but the dum aloo kashmiri, a delicious potato curry, is one of a number of fine vegetarian options.
For those who have little time to spare, they even offer an ‘executive’ lunchpack for as little as Dhs18. It’s the standard thali, but the price is right, while Thursdays and Fridays feature a buffet for a mere Dhs30. Ruchi is a friendly ‘eat and go’ Indian restaurant without that fast food feeling. It’s a good afterwork option, for when you need a bit of spicy comfort food. There are plenty like it in the city – it’s not extraordinary – but it’s well worth your time if you happen to be in the neighbourhood.
