Happy Yemen

A taste of Yemen

Visitors to Happy Yemen certainly go for the food rather than the views, as the rather old and shabby restaurant looks out onto a very busy stretch of Airport Road. This doesn’t seem to put anyone off though, as throughout the day you’ll see plenty of customers stopping by to pick up bags of simple chicken and fish dishes, flavoursome rice and freshly-baked breads for takeaway. The food is cooked very well, particularly their barbecue–style dishes which come slightly charred on the outside. Liver, heart and kidneys all feature on the breakfast menu, so if you’re made of sterner stuff than we are, you can try those too. Inside is a little on the ramshackle side, with large platefuls of grub flying from the kitchen to the tables, but there’s an easy-going atmosphere even if staff are a little gruff. Very little English is spoken.
