The Souk at Central Market is home to several classy and upmarket restaurants that are a tempting interruption to an afternoon’s shopping. For a quick and cheap feed, though, you might be drawn towards the Crêpe Café. If you’re after a healthy, savoury meal, however, walk on by. The Caesar salad is possibly the worst in the city, with limp lettuce, soggy croutons and a poorly executed dressing, while the meat in the steak and cheese savoury pancake is processed beyond recognition. Crêpe Café definitely focuses its attentions on the sweeter side of the menu, with guilt-inducing concoctions such as a Belgian waffle smothered in banana, chocolate and ice cream, or equally decadent crêpes smeared with Nutella and whipped cream. The decor is a cartoonish yellow and black, and it has all the atmosphere of a fast food restaurant at midnight, but for a sugary, comforting snack, it’s worth a stop.
