Indian Royal Restaurant

Indulge in authentic Indian cuisine without breaking the bank

Located in the Tryp by Wyndham hotel, Indian Royal Restaurant is a charming new curry spot in the downtown area. The restaurant is empty when we swing by for dinner, but that’s perhaps to be expected considering how new it is. Also, being hidden on the hotel’s M2 level on its own, it’s the kind of place you have to know about. You certainly won’t stumble upon it.

We choose a seat close to the window with views overlooking the bustling downtown area. There is a mini stage of some sort right in front of the ceiling to floor window, which is pity, because it would be a great spot to sit and eat while watching the buzzing city below.

For starters we decide on the prawn and avocado salad with mango. The dish consists of masala grilled prawns with avo salsa, which is topped with caramelised mango and pomegranate sauce. The portion is small, but is a tasty and healthy start. Our guest opts for the samudari anarkali, crispy fried fish in a spicy rice coating. That portion is much larger and is paired with a variety of tasty dipping sauces.

For mains we keep it simple with a trio of chicken tikka. We’re served succulent pieces of tandoor chicken which consists of chicken tikka, malai tikka and pudhinawali murg. It’s tender and succulent and is a great way to sample a variety of flavours in one dish.

Our guest also keeps it simple with a hearty chicken biryani, which although slightly oily is a heavy meal that’s bursting with flavour and certainly enough to feed two people.

The staff are incredibly attentive throughout our visit, giving an almost homely kind of service, which makes us feel welcome and appreciated.

If you’re looking for good Indian grub without the fine dining prices, this one is undoubtedly a secret new gem worth seeking out.

The bottom line
Tasty Indian food at affordable prices.
