What looks like a burger, smells like a burger and tastes like a burger – but doesn’t contain any meat? The much-talked about plant-based Beyond Burger is the latest addition to the menu at Bareburger. With veganism rapidly on the rise in Abu Dhabi we had to try it out to see how it stacks up against the real thing.
The venue itself is comfortable and perfect for families in Marina Mall but until now you probably wouldn’t make a trip out especially for Bareburger. This might all change with the new vegan offering.
You’ll probably have to double check whether you’ve been brought meat by mistake. It’s a common question as the Beyond Burger is so meat-like. It contains no animal products (instead, it’s pea protein and potato starch) but yet it really does taste almost exactly like meat. Thanks to a clever bit of science (and a lot of beetroot juice) it even “bleeds” when you take a bite, which is not as creepy as it sounds.
So it’s top marks for the Beyond Burger, which can be made veggie – with cheese – or vegan with vegan mayo. But if you’re looking for something a bit meatier, then Bareburger has plenty of organic options, with everything from lamb to camel burgers on offer if you’re feeling adventurous.
Go for the Supreme, which is all about the succulent, well-seasoned beef and enormous crispy onion rings perched on top. Drinks and desserts are good, too. In fact, Bareburger ticks pretty much every box for a casual bite.
