Switch

American-style quirky plates

Switch
Switch

It’s so bright in Switch we feel like putting our sunglasses back on.

The rounded walls, floor and tables are all pure white and the welcoming staff are also pristine in white uniforms. It feels like we’re entering a space ship that specialises in American-style plates and elaborate desserts, and it’s really quite fun.

Switch is clearly a place to come on treat day, but we decide to break the mould and start with the edamame and quinoa salad. It’s actually a lot better than we expected, as we thought that a place so skilled at creating fried and cheese-covered plates would struggle with a salad.

But the mix of beetroot, mixed leaves, nuts, feta and pomegranate seeds is fresh, satisfying and enticingly colourful.

We then move on to the burgers, which aside from the camel-meat specialities, are probably what Switch is best known for. The tried-and-tested combination of wagyu beef, lettuce, pickles, mustard, ketchup and mayo in the classic burger is delicious, while the curly shrimp sliders come with plenty of shellfish and spicy sriracha mayo. We scrape off the artifical cheese sauce (it’s just not to our taste), but we love the coleslaw and the batter on the shrimp isn’t too greasy.

Sadly, we’re too full for one of the Insta-worthy desserts, but we’ll be back soon to give them a whirl.
