Sometimes you just want to head somewhere on your own to watch a game, sink a cold one and have a bite to eat. We know we do anyway. The urge has grabbed us again so we head to the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr’s Sports Café and pull up a stool at one of the high tables.
We can’t pretend the Major League Soccer game on the big screen is that enthralling, but the happy hour pints and the pizza we order certainly are.
It may just be a margherita, but sometimes simple is best and the base, sauce and cheese are perfect on this one. We’d order it again for sure.
We also order some crispy calamari as a starter, but the generous portion doesn’t arrive until after we’re almost done with the pizza. It’s decent, but we were thinking it’d pass the time until the pizza arrived.
The rest of the menu is filled with burgers that you can customise with toppings such as fried eggs, beef pastrami and gorgonzola, chicken wings, and mega sandwiches. Everything we’ve eaten here has been good, but nothing has come close to that pizza (maybe they get tips from Frankie’s restaurant along the corridor).
For no frills bar bites and a upbeat sports bar atmosphere, you could do a lot worse.
The bottom line
Does a surprisingly good pizza.
