Restaurant review: A veteran and ever-popular city pub

Heroes
Heroes

Some venues have stood the test of time and Heroes is one of those. We couldn’t tell you how many times we’ve been to this veteran Abu Dhabi pub. From post-brunch parties to a quick drink and catch up with a mate and from singing along to the International Playboys to watching a game of footy, this is one place that’s good for most occasions.

Not much has changed over the years, but if it’s not broke, don’t fix it, right?

On our latest visit, it’s a weeknight and even though it’s still early the place is filling up.

The menu is filled with pub grub classics, and after a long day in the office some old-fashioned comfort food seems like a good idea.

We tuck into the crispy chilli mayo shrimps,  which go perfectly with some happy hour drinks. Encased in crunchy batter and topped with a fiery Szechuan sauce, they’re top notch.

The steak and hops pie comes in a monster portion, but we don’t mind that at all. Beneath the golden pastry is a rich, dark gravy and succulent beef. The fluffy mashed potato on the side is a perfect accompaniment.

We also have fish and chips, and while the fish could maybe do with an extra minute in the fryer, the chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce all hit the mark, Heroes never disappoints.
