The circus theme of Circo means the venue is full of bright and bold décor and furnishings. It makes a change from some of the more traditional-looking Italians, which can sometimes feel a bit dated and stuffy.
You’ll find a menu full of all the staples and favourites from the boot-shaped country here, plus a few more adventurous dishes such as truffle risotto and poached octopus.
We start with baked courgette parmigiana. It’s light, full of fresh, thinly sliced courgette and sweet tomatoes, and we love the layer of crispy cheese on top. The side of chunky bread goes perfectly with it, too.
We firmly believe that no Italian meal is complete without some pizza and pasta. The butternut tortelli is swimming in butter (perhaps a bit too much), but the naturally sweet butternut goes perfectly with the nutty parmeson cheese and pesto sauce.
The pasta is cooked perfectly al dente and it’s a real treat. Meanwhile, the signature Circo New York pizza is topped with a modest amount of diced peppers, olives and about two basil leaves. We think it could do with a bit more going on but the base is thin and crispy and the sauce is fresh and nicely seasoned. It’s ideal for a comforting carb-fest.
