It’s been a while since we stumbled across a restaurant that we instantly decided was good enough to make a regular haunt, but we’re happy to say Biancorosso is just that.
We were utterly ravenous on arrival as it had taken us ages to find the place (do bring a map! it’s on their website, details below) so we were relieved to be given a bowl of fried dough pieces immediately. A crunchy mouthful of everything that’s bad for you – salt, oil and more salt – they tasted terrific and we polished off a whole bowlful as we perused the menu.
Selecting a pizza, salad and pasta, we sat back to soak up the buzzing atmosphere. The vibe is relaxed and the bright red décor cheerful – we’d certainly describe it as somewhere to stop in for lunch rather than an evening meal. Despite having only been open a few months it was bustling with families and friends which boded well – often it takes a long time for places like this to get off the ground.
Insalata germana arrived first, a fairly unremarkable green salad, with tomatoes, corn, olives and mozzarella, then we got stuck into our mains. Pasta al salmone, a creamy sauce with soft pieces of fish nestled in, came in a pie dish with a thin bread covering on top – an unusual touch but one that really worked. Funghi pizza was also impressive, sprinkled with juicy mushrooms and large enough that we ended up having half of it boxed up to take back to the office.
The food at Biancorosso is certainly good, but the restaurant’s X-factor is the lovely staff who are endlessly patient (even after our fifth phonecall asking for directions before we arrived) and brought our meal with smiles and chat, which made all the difference. All in all it was a thoroughly satisfying lunch.
