There’s something about the Holiday Inn brand that might incur surprise to find a tasteful, sophisticated Mediterranean restaurant on their ground floor. But that’s exactly what Lemon Tree is. Careful lighting means the tables feel intimate, whether you’re in a cosy corner or at one of the larger central tables. The service is consistently polished and considerate, and if you go more than twice you’ll start getting treated like a favoured regular. All good reasons to visit and the food’s not half bad either.
The menu is classic Mediterranean fare, from appetisers such as goat’s cheese parcels and Greek salad, to tenderly cooked fish and meat main courses; nine times out of ten you’ll be served a very enjoyable meal. On the very odd occasion when you don’t (their pizzas are sometimes doughy and stodgy) you’ll be consoled by the low prices and the fact the waiter will probably have remembered your favourite table, what you like to drink and to bring two spoons with dessert.
