Al Finjan

Le Meridien

From Time Out Abu Dhabi Eating Out 2010

This small café in the lobby of Le Méridien hotel is quite attractive, with its stained glass ceiling, mosaic tiled floor and view of the pond outside. Alas, like many of the city’s cafés it does get smoky at times, and the busy bustle of the hotel is never far away. With over 20 varieties of Dilmah and Ronnefeldt teas, plus a good selection of cakes in the patisserie cabinet, the café mainly caters to the afternoon tea brigade, although it also serves a decent selection of light snacks such as soup, omelettes and sandwiches.

The mezze platter is quite large, and the salmon salad appetising, but you wouldn’t really come here for a slap-up dinner. The service is good, and the lack of background music a plus, with just the clatter of cups and saucers and the buzz of the lobby to accompany your meal. For avid people-watchers it’s an interesting place to spend half an hour or so, although there is little to differentiate it from any other café except a good selection of teas.
