Amici

Review: A stylish take on classic Italian cuisine

We love to dine out on Yas Island – and it is an even more tasty proposition when you land at the glittering Yas Viceroy.

That undoubted style, however, can come at a premium price, a fact that becomes clear from a quick glance at the menu at refined Italian spot Amici.

We hope that the bruschetta really is the best thing since sliced bread after seeing its eye-popping Dhs95 price tag.

We order a serving and, despite our reservations, we reckon it is the best bruschetta we have tried after all. Two large chunks of lightly grilled sour dough are loaded with heirloom tomatoes, baked ricotta and basil. It is a feast for the eyes that tastes as good as it looks.

Our appetites whetted, we try out the classic lasagna, with delicious beef ragout, sprinkled with salty parmesan.

It’s a simple Italian staple but it is done very well here; fresh, generously sized and packed full of flavour. It’s the best value dish we eat. The roasted spring chicken, with potato and chive cake and vegetables is another tasty foodie treat, but at almost Dhs200 it should be.

The venue, like the food itself, is elegant, understated and well worth paying a visit if you have the cash to dine well.

The bottom line

A sophisticated taste of Italy
