Rodeo Grill

A classy eatery serving fine cuts of meat

Rodeo Grill
Rodeo Grill

With places like Butcher & Still and JW Steakhouse to compete with, steakhouses in Abu Dhabi can’t afford to let their standards slip. The atmosphere at Rodeo Grill doesn’t quite reach the same level of hipster cool that some of its rivals do, but we love the comfortable velvet booths and tall windows.

We start with the truffle fries, which the server assures us are “very good”. We’re not disappointed, despite the fries being a bit too skinny for our liking. The truffle isn’t overpowering, there’s plenty of cheese, and the tenderloin tips are brilliant (we only wish there were more of them, but perhaps we’re just greedy). Meanwhile, the chorizo is a nice touch to the Caesar salad, but we only count one anchovy in the whole plate.

Thankfully, we’re wowed by the rib-eye steak  before we’ve even taken a bite. It’s huge, and comes plated up with colossal cajun potato wedges and truffle mash (we’re always fans of double carbs). If we’re being picky, we’d say that the wedges are slightly overdone (although the salty and spicy seasoning is brilliant) and the onion rings look like they were in a freezer minutes earlier.

Our blackened salmon is also on the large side, and the mashed potato is creamy and comforting. The steamed vegetables provide a welcome dose of vitamins, too.

We finish it all off with a wonderful crème brûlée. It’s not the coolest steakhouse in town, but we leave in the happy daze of a perfect food coma.
