First things first, this pub might be called The Attic but it is on the ground floor. Even though you can see the venue from street level (in fact, you enter straight from the street), one of our group went into the hotel looking for a bar hidden away in the upper floors.
Once you’re inside, you’ll find a cosy pub that makes the most of the limited space it has by snaking round corners and revealing itself the further you wander through it.
We’re here after work on a weeknight and it’s quiet. Well, in terms of customers it’s quiet, when it comes to the music it’s practically booming. There are disco lights flashing all over the ceiling and house versions of pop and R’n’B chart hits are playing ou t over the speakers.
It’s not really the kind of ambience we were expecting, or suits the place at this hour, though maybe it makes more sense as it gets later.
Aside from the soundtrack, things are exactly to our liking. The staff are friendly, pointing out which drinks are in the happy hour and making recommendations, and the deals are extremely wallet friendly.
The happy hour runs from opening until 8pm and the bottle of hops we choose (a Filipino classic and one of our favourites) is Dhs15. Now that puts smiles on our faces.
There’s sport on the TVs that are dotted around, and if you’re nostaligic for the early days of the Premier League you’ll find plenty to gawp at. Highlights of recent games are also showing and there are live games on weekends, too.
Before long, more people start trickling in, giving us the impression that it gets busier as the clock ticks towards midnight.
Some different tunes during the daytime would put this on the right track to being a regular stop-off for people in the area. We know we’ll be back to find out, either way.
